Social Disadvantage Narrative

Social Disadvantage Narrative Statement

As of July 19, 2023, SBA now requires that all applicants and current 8(a) participants prepare and submit a social disadvantage narrative. Previously, if you were part of a presumed disadvantaged group (African American, Hispanic American, Native American, Asian-Pacific Islander American, Subcontinent Asian American) a social disadvantage narrative was not required for 8(a) certification.

In order for us to get started on your 8(a) social disadvantage narrative, Liberty8a will provide the applicant with:

  • An overview of the 8(a) social disadvantage narrative requirement
  • Guidelines on how to create your social disadvantage narrative
  • Questions and examples to assist you in remembering your experiences in the three areas of education, employment and business history
  • Example narratives that have been successfully submitted and accepted by SBA, to see the detail and content that has been approved.

We will then review your social disadvantage narrative rough draft and provide you with recommended edits including comments and suggestions on how to make it stronger. We understand that the memories of discrimination that you have experienced can be painful, but this statement is vital for your application.

“Working with Lindsay these past few years has been a wonderful experience. She effortlessly walked me through the process to obtain my business’ 8(a) certification and helped me prepare our annual 8(a) report. In both instances she was responsive, well-organized and extremely detail-oriented. I can’t thank her enough for helping my business obtain and maintain our 8(a) certification through the Small Business Administration. I look forward to working with her again in the future to help us fulfill all of our SBA requirements. I trust no one else more than her to get the job done right the first time.”

    Founder and CEO, Amivero:

“I have had the pleasure of working with Lindsay on my firm’s 8a application. Lindsay helped navigate me through the process and made sure we submitted a complete and accurate application to SBA. Although my application required a social disadvantaged narrative, as I am a Caucasian woman business owner, Lindsay helped me to prepare a solid narrative and was able to get my firm 8(a) certified. Thank you to LIBERTY8a for your assistance and guidance through this entire process.”
