Social Disadvantage Narrative Statement
As of July 19, 2023, SBA now requires that all applicants and current 8(a) participants prepare and submit a social disadvantage narrative. Previously, if you were part of a presumed disadvantaged group (African American, Hispanic American, Native American, Asian-Pacific Islander American, Subcontinent Asian American) a social disadvantage narrative was not required for 8(a) certification.
In order for us to get started on your 8(a) social disadvantage narrative, Liberty8a will provide the applicant with:
- An overview of the 8(a) social disadvantage narrative requirement
- Guidelines on how to create your social disadvantage narrative
- Questions and examples to assist you in remembering your experiences in the three areas of education, employment and business history
- Example narratives that have been successfully submitted and accepted by SBA, to see the detail and content that has been approved.
We will then review your social disadvantage narrative rough draft and provide you with recommended edits including comments and suggestions on how to make it stronger. We understand that the memories of discrimination that you have experienced can be painful, but this statement is vital for your application.
